She also is survived by her sister, Frances Adele Aiton of Palm Beach Gardens, FL.

Doris was born in Brooklyn, NY, on September 17, 1942, to Dorothy S. Anthon and Francis J. Anthon. She attended school in Valley Stream, NY, and graduated high school from Valley Stream Central High School, where she was a National Merit Scholar and member of the National Honor Society. Doris graduated from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL, with a major in business and was a member of the Alpha Xi Delta sorority. She was a strong supporter of her sorority after graduation and edited its alumni newsletter for many years.

After graduating from college, she moved to New York City and worked for Merrill Lynch before relocating to Washington, D.C., to work for the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). There she met and married her husband, John William Marsh of Decatur, IL, in 1968. Following the birth of her children, Doris took a role at the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation in Washington, D.C., as a senior bank examiner and accounting policy expert. She earned both her Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designations.

Doris was an active, passionate supporter of women’s rights and human rights charities, including the ACLU, Planned Parenthood, Habitat for Humanity, and served as Treasurer for the Women in Housing and Finance association of Washington, D.C. She also actively supported numerous female and Democratic political candidates. Doris challenged the glass ceiling throughout her career, including a successful lawsuit against the FDIC for failing to promote her over her male colleagues.

Doris and John lived in Vienna, VA,  until 2003, then following their retirements, resided in Wintergreen, and Palm Beach Gardens, FL, until 2018 when they relocated to The Lodge at Old Trail in Crozet, and eventually to Anthology Senior Living in Charlottesville

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a memorial donation in her name to the Alpha Xi Delta Sorority (alphaxidelta.org/online-giving-form) or to the Women in Housing & Finance Foundation (whfdc.org/donations/).

A memorial service is planned for 11 a.m. Sat., Aug. 5th at Holy Cross Church, Batesville, VA.
