C’ville Pie Fest at Crozet Mudhouse October 3
The first-ever C’ville Pie Fest, a celebration of pie and community, will be Saturday October 3 from 12 noon – 2 p.m. at the Crozet Mudhouse. The event will include a multiple-baker pie competition, musical entertainment from The Honey Dewdrops and a silent pie auction to benefit PACEM, the area’s winter homeless shelter.
Judges for the pie competition include Charlottesville notables Jim Duncan, realcrozetva blogger and REALTOR®,
Brian Geiger, The Food Geek, food science writer for Fine Cooking Magazine, and the current “Best Pie Maker” in Charlottesville, and Delegate David Toscano, delegate for the 57th District in the Virginia House of Delegates.

Crozet Music Festival October 2 – 4

Shenandoah Valley British Car Show October 3
The annual Shenandoah Valley British Car Show will be held at Ridgeview Park in Waynesboro, VA the weekend of October 3rd and 4th. Events begin Friday evening with a reception at the host hotel, the Holiday Inn, in Staunton, VA and continue with the Saturday Car Show from 9:00 a.m. – 3 p.m. (No charge for viewing, children welcome) and a Saturday evening Awards Dinner. A Sunday breakfast lecture is offered at the host hotel. Saturday, October 3rd, Car Show in Ridgeview Park, Waynesboro, VA (9:00 AM-3:00 PM).

Lose it Big Competition Starting October 15
Anytime Fitness, the 24-hour fitness club located on 250 West right outside of Crozet, is set to kick of a city wide weight loss competition beginning October 15, sponsored by Dominos Pizza and Jimmy John’s. Participants can compete in teams as well as individually. There will be speakers, demonstrations, challenges, and temptations.
Members of the club can participate for $25 and nonmembers can participate for $60. The fee gives participants full access to the gym through the completion of the competition, December 15th. A portion of the enrollment will be donated to the Crozet Volunteer Fire Department, as well any uneaten temptation items. Prizes, including cash, will be awarded for winners.

Cider Pressing at Crozet Farmers’ Market Oct. 10
Freshly made apple cider will be featured again this year at Crozet Farmers’ Market Oct 10. Wayne Clark will bring his wooden, hand-operated press and apples from Henley’s Orchard. If you’ve never tasted cider straight from the press, you’re in for a treat. If you’d like more than a complimentary cup of cider, bring a clean jug and make a donation. All donations will go to our local food bank and organizations that assist impoverished people of Appalachia.
And you can try you r hand at African drumming. William (Whit) Whitten will be at the market to offer a lesson in African drumming beginning at 10 a.m. All ages are welcome and drums will be available.
Market hours are 8 a.m. until noon. Cider pressing will begin at 9 a.m. and drumming at 10 a.m. The Crozet Farmer’s Market is held in the parking lot of Crozet United Methodist Church in downtown Crozet.
FFA Bluegrass Benefit to Be Held October 10
A bluegrass concert featuring Little Mountain Boys, Hard Drivin’ Grass, In The Tradition, and Deer Creek Boys will be held on Saturday, October 10, from 4 to 9 p.m. at the Nelson Middle School Auditorium to benefit the Nelson County FFA teams in agronomy, farm business management, food and fiber and meats evaluation.
Doors will open at 3 p.m. and there will be a silent auction, bake sales and a 50/50 raffle. All proceeds will be used to offset trip costs for the FFA teams going to the national FFA convention in Indiana. Cost of the concert is $10 for adults and $5 for children 6 to 12 (under 6 are free). The Nelson County Middle School is located on Route 29 South in Lovingston.
Crozet Health Fair October 18
On Sunday, October 18th, the Crozet Business Networking Group is sponsoring the 1st Annual Crozet Health Fair from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm. at Crozet Baptist Church on St. George Avenue (near Downtown Crozet). This free event is promoting healthy living for all ages, with over 20 Crozet health care professionals providing free health screenings, education, assessments and other services.
The event will also have a 1 Mile Family Fun Run/Walk starting at 2:00 at the church.
The Crozet Health Fair will feature free flu shots for children without insurance, cholesterol checks, child fingerprinting, massage, glaucoma tests, oral cancer screenings, body mass index (BMI) measurements, blood pressure screenings, audiogram, orthodontic screenings, energy field screenings, posture analysis, and sleep disorder screenings. There will be local food vendors and activities for children. Meet your local health care providers and find new resources right in Crozet.

Piedmont Baptist Church Anniversary Celebration Oct. 18
The Piedmont Baptist Church, Yancey Mills, will celebrate it’s 139th Church Anniversary on Sunday, October 18, 2009 at 11 a.m.. The Reverend Elton Pryor and the Historical Zion Poplar Baptist Church, Gloucester, VA, will be the special guest. Lunch will follow. All are welcome!
