Meg Bryce, Albemarle County resident and recent candidate for the at-large seat on the county’s School Board, has been appointed by Governor Glenn Youngkin to serve on the Virginia State Board of Education. Her four-year term began July 24 as she was sworn in to the nine-member board, which is charged with setting statewide curriculum standards, establishing state testing and assessment programs, and defining standards of accreditation for local school divisions.
“Governor Youngkin thanks Dr. Meg Bryce, an exceptional educator and passionate parent advocate, for stepping up to serve Virginians on the Virginia Board of Education,” said Youngkin press secretary Christian Martinez in a statement. “Her extensive background in education, her advocacy for student-centered policies, and her commitment to restoring common sense in education for all Virginia students will be instrumental in ensuring that every parent, student, and teacher receives the essential resources and support needed to thrive.”
“I’m honored to be appointed by Governor Youngkin, and it is a privilege to be able to serve the students and families of Virginia in this new role,” said Bryce. “Every student in the Commonwealth deserves a high-quality education, yet for far too long our policies have let many students fall through the cracks. This board is dedicated to providing accountability, transparency, and support, so that every child excels. I can’t wait to get to work statewide on the very things I have advocated for at the local level.”
