Girls Lacrosse

The Western Albemarle High School girls lacrosse team finished the season unbeaten with a 20-0 record to win their second straight VHSL Class 4 state championship. The team scored a 12-8 victory over Rockbridge County in the state championship game and were dominant all season, outscoring their opponents by 10 goals or more in 12 of their 20 matchups. Coach Peggy Williams was voted coach of the year for the All-Jefferson Class 3 and defender senior Julianna Murphy was voted Player of the Year in Class 3. Other girls that were named to the All-Jefferson District team included senior Maggie Craytor, junior Taylor Florin and sophomore Annie Alhusen (attack); senior Reeve Goldstein and junior McLean Stokes at midfield; and defenders junior Genevive Hathaway, junior Jean-Nika Van der Westhuizen, and freshman Leila Harris.

Boys Tennis 

Western won the VHSL Class 3 state championship at Liberty University on June 6, besting Grafton 5-0 in the final. Led by tennis coach Ron Manilla, the team finished the season with a 21-1-0 record highlighted by winning 19 of the 21 matches 5-0. 

Boys Soccer 

WAHS took the state title after completing a 20-0 season and besting Culpeper County 5-2 in the final game. Coach Michael Nafziger was named All Region 3C Coach of the Year and senior forward Jamey Williamson was named All-Region 3C Player of the year. Other soccer team members named to the First Team All Region 3C included senior forward Connor Spano, junior Ronan McDonald and Rafael Ibanex (midfielders), and seniors Cashel Yates and Ben Brockmeier in defense. 

Girls Soccer 

While the Warriors had an outstanding season with a 18-1-1-record, they were defeated in the final game of the VHSL Class 3 state tournament by Brentsville on June 8. In the All-Jefferson District, Kristie Braunston was named Coach of the Year and senior midfielder Phebe Ryan was named Player of the year. Other players named to First Team All-Jefferson District included senior forward Reece Mattern, senior defender Natalie Johnson and senior goalkeeper Elena Romesburg. 

Baseball 

The Warriors baseball team completed the season 16-5-0 but failed to advance to the state tournament following a 5-9 loss to Broadway in the regional tournament. Two players were named to First Team All-Region 3C: junior third basemen Jack Connelly and senior outfielder Aiden Carver. 

Softball

Coach Kristen Hardy said that the 2024 season would be one to build the team finishing the season with a 8-12-0 record. One player was named to the First Team All-Jefferson District, sophomore outfielder Addy Hux. Best of luck to the team next season.
