William “Bill” Noble Eckerson

Former WWII marine officer, telephone executive, musician and family man William “Bill” Noble Eckerson turned 100 on August 21 and celebrated at the Lodge at Old Trail with family and friends. After graduating from Colgate University, Eckerson joined the Marines as a platoon leader and, in February 1945, landed in Iwo Jima, where he was wounded. After a successful career with New England Telephone Company, he and his wife Elizabeth (now deceased) retired to Crozet in 2015. He has four children, eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, many of whom came to Crozet to help him celebrate. Family members who could not visit Bill Eckerson celebrated with him online.
