The Western Albemarle varsity field hockey team celebrated after they won the Group AA Region II championship on November 5th defeating Fauquier High School, 1 – 0.
The Lady Warriors then advanced to the state tournament for the ninth consecutive year (every year since 2003, including the state championship year of 2007). In the state semi-finals, WAHS lost a closely contested game to Grafton, 2-1.
Under Head Coach Mia Fields the Lady Warriors compiled a record of 16-6; won the Jefferson District regular season and tournament titles; and won the Region II championship.
WAHS loses only three seniors off of this year’s team and will return JD and Region II Player of the Year Olivia Hajek and fellow All-State players Caroline Deale, Jessie Powell and Morgan Schuler.
