MacKenzie Parks and her gray pony Another Irish won first place in the large pony division.

First place in the Large Pony Division at the 39th Rockfish Valley Ruritan Club Horse Show May 15 went to MacKenzie Parks, 14, of Forest on her gray pony Another Irish. Making only his third show appearance, the pony balked at jumps repeatedly during the warm-up round, but was willing when it counted for points. Second place went to Niki Berrington of Waynesboro, on Cruise Control, and third went to Kate Ridgeway of Dayton on Spring Fling. The show’s annual Little Prince Memorial ribbon, awarded to the winner of the Small/Medium Pony Hunter Division, went to MacKenzie Krason of Lynchburg on Remington Steele.

Ariadne Paxton was show manager and course designer and Tammy Zirkle of the Rockfish Valley Ruritans handled the refreshments, which featured BBQ chicken. Krista Hodgkin of Roanoke judged the show for the Southwest Virginia Hunter Jumper Association.

The show ring at the Rockfish Valley Ruritan Park on Rt. 151 is the only grass course on the SWVHJA circuit. It was cancelled last year because the turf was too soggy to ride on.
